I was seraching the net to find the Best Practice to upgrade/install a Domino/Traveler 9... Server in a 8.5.3 Domino pool.

However I did find some info none of the info was complete.

 

On this Open Mic Webcast http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg27038015 they say you need to upgrade the domino directory and let it replicate to all servers.

So far so good, but here is my 1st ? don't you need to update or copy the template for the Domino directory over to the 8.5.3 servers?

I found an answer in this forum here http://www-10.lotus.com/ldd/ndseforum.nsf/xpTopicThread.xsp?documentId=33A6CF6E4886701785257B6C0078A69F but there is mentioned [Quote] We did bring over the updated templates for the directory, ect from the upgraded server to the admin server [Unquote]. Here the word 'etc' is not much of a help.

On some other documentation for Domino I find that it is not recomended to run templates higher than the server version.

So please if someone has the steps to perform an side by side installation of domino/traveler 9... with domino 8.5.3 please feel free to update the list you find below.

- Steps -

- Install domino 9...

- Start Domino 9... and let it perform a design refresh on the Domino Directory (names.nsf)

- Copy the Domino Directory template (pupnames.ntf) to the other domino (8.5.3) servers

- Perform a design upgrade of the Domino Directory (names.nsf) on those servers
